What is UX?

According to ISO 9241-210 (Ergonomics of human-system interaction) user experience is defined as

“a person’s perceptions and responses that result from the use or anticipated use of a product, system or service”.

What happens when your product or interface doesn't work the way the users expect it to?

They normally walk away without even looking at the content or of its importance. Generally your users are your customers and as such, any of these walkaways are the last thing you want them to experience when engaging with your business.

if your users have a bad experience on your website, they won’t generally come back. So not only have you lost a customer, you’ve increased the likelihood that your customer will go to a competitor. If your user has an okay experience on your website, but a better experience on your competitor’s website, they’ll go back to the competitor.

What happens when the user experience is good?

On the other side, a great user experience improves efficiency - by either helping your users to do things faster or by helping them make fewer mistakes. With good user experience, it’s easy to match or even outperform another product by features but good design and user experience cannot be duplicated easily.
